Grumpy Sunday

I've come to a conclusion.

Nursery is sooooooooooo not worth it. It turned my son, the picture of health and happiness, into a monster. If you don't believe me, allow me to paint you a little picture - Since we started sending him to Nursery we've had to deal with the stomach flu, a viral infection that landed us in the ER at midnight, a constantly runny nose and grump demeanor, AND a potential Hand Foot and Mouth disease exposure. I don't think the weeks of interrupted sleep and dealing with a grump make up for the two hours of toddler-free church. Immunity be damned!  I'm too pregnant to deal with this! And don't even get me started on what I'm going to do after Buddy gets here. Shrimp might not be going to Nursery for a couple of months...

On a brighter note: See that sweater vest and those khakis? That's the outfit my nephews wore at our wedding. My sister saved it and now my kids get to wear it! Isn't that so fun??

I have to completely agree. Ben NEVER EVER said 'mine', 'no', yelled at me, refused to do what I told him, or hit others until Nursery. The poor nursery leaders are so overwhelmed that a lot goes undisciplined, and I think they are not comfortable using strong disciplinary measures with other people's children. The illness factor is huge too. I can trace thestart of a lot of his discipline problems back to his 18-month old entrance to nursery. Nothing against the leaders or even the other parents whose kids are in there; I think all the kids go a littl crazy after a squirmy hour of sacrament meeting. But I am sure thinking serioiusly about not sending my sweet wonderful mostly easy-going Joseph to nursery to have him turned into a terror too! Matt and I might have a standoff about it, but we'll see. Good luck to you too!

What nursery has done to our kids was the main topic of conversation during mine and Whitney's run this morning. Such a love-hate relationship. Luckily Jackson has an AMAZING immune system so I haven't had as much issues with the sickness problems. Sounds like your poor little dude sure has had it rough.

I hear you on all levels. There are so many things I want to change about the way that the Nursery classes are run. And to be honest, if there is a hand-foot--and-mouth outbreak in your ward, DO NOT send him! If I were the Nursery leader in your ward and there was an outbreak, I would cancel nursery altogether and send the kids with their parents. Ok, I could go on and on, but I will stop. Good luck!

I agree!! When it got close to the time that Ellie was born, I DID stop sending Nicholas to nursery. And he didn't go back until Ellie was almost 4 months old. Because every time he went to nursery (at least at first,) he got sick. And I did NOT want my newborn getting sick too.

So he stayed home. And now, he's back in nursery, he's almost three, and he loves it and doesn't even know that he didn't get to go for a few months.

Definitely worth it to keep your family healthy with new baby on the way!

And Vanessa is right...avoid HFM like the plague!

That is crazy. Ryker has been going for 6 months and not gotten sick or picked up monster behaviors. It sounds like we are lucky compared to you and your friends experience. Bummer.

Actually, nursery is easy for my youngest, but it hasn't always been. When #11 was in nursery (just barely), an older boy threw a ride-on toy right at his head. He was inconsolable and rightly so. Not our best day at church.
